Who are we?

We are NOT the English Department,

But we do read extensively and write a little every day.

We are NOT the History Department,

But we do learn about the past and try to bring it to life.

We are NOT the Math Department,

But we do deal with angles, measurements and calculations.

We are NOT the Business Department,

But we do strive to present ourselves in a professional manner.

We are NOT the Athletic Department,

But we do strive to improve our bodies and our control of them.

We are NOT the Science Department,

But we do make discoveries about ourselves and our environment.

We are NOT a computer class,

But we do use technology as a research and performance tool.

We are NOT a shop class,

But we do build creative and involved structures.

We are NOT a music class,

But we do sing and use rhythm, pitch, and tone.

We are NOT a psychology class,

But we do learn about the thought process.

We are NOT an art class,

But we do design, draw, and paint.

We are NOT a dance class,

But we do explore movement.

We ARE Theatre Arts:

The core of having class.

Actors

written by Paul Ryan

Actors are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of the Earth.  They deal with more day-to-day rejection in one year than most people do in a lifetime. Every day, actors face the financial challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who think they should get "real jobs," and their own fear that they'll never work again.  Every day they have to ignore the possibility that the vision to which they have dedicated their lives to is a pipe dream.  With every passing year, many of them watch as the other people their age achieve the predictable milestones of normal life – the car, the family, the house, the nest egg.  But they stay true to their dream, in spite of sacrifices.

Why?

Because actors are willing to give their entire lives to the moment – that line, that laugh, that gesture, or that interpretation that will stir the audience's soul.  Actors are beings who have tasted life's nectar in that crystal moment when they poured out their creative spirit and touched another's heart.  In that instant, they are as close to magic and perfection as anyone could ever be.  And in their hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that moment is worth a thousand lifetimes.
